The investigation into corruption in Chinese football has now reportedly spread to the women’s game.

The Beijing Times reports that several referees are believed to be in police custody, and new Chinese Football Association chief Wei Di told the newspaper that it was inevitable that women’s football had also been compromised following damaging match-fixing revelations about the men’s game.

Wei said: "Against the huge background of cracking down on match-fixing and gambling, it is not possible that women's football is a pool of clean water.”
