South Africa 2010 chief executive Danny Jordaan believes that a successful World Cup this year could lead to the country making an Olympic bid.
Rio de Janeiro will become the first South American city to host the Games in 2016 and Jordaan thinks that opens the door for South Africa to make a bid, for either 2020 or 2024.
"Now that Brazil will be hosting 2016, I think it creates the possibility," he told World Football Insider, "and I think further that a successful Fifa World Cup in our country will certainly up the stakes for an argument that Africa's time has come for the hosting of an Olympics on the continent."
Jordaan also said that he was happy with the number of tickets sold for this summer’s tournament, and added that he was confident the remaining 700,000 would sell out.
