McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh has confirmed that the company has bought back most of the 40 per cent stake previously owned by Mercedes.
McLaren said in November that it had agreed a phased buyback of the shares by 2011 after Mercedes decided to launch its own Formula 1 team.
Whitmarsh told Reuters: "I think it is about 11 percent that is still owned by Mercedes, but it's not an important or significant number.”
