Fifa has confirmed that Indonesia is no longer in the running to host the 2022 World Cup after failing to provide the necessary government guarantees.
It has been speculated for some time that the country did not have the required government backing to continue with its bid.
Fifa secretary-general Jerome Valcke said: "The deadline was December 2009. We asked them many, many times to provide these guarantees and finally the government itself said that their main concern is to develop the country and they will not support the bidding committee as much as requested.”
Speaking to reporters after a recent Fifa executive committee meeting in Zurich, he added: "It's the governmental side of the guarantees that is missing."
Indonesia's exit leaves nine bids in the race to stage the 2018 and 2022 World Cups: Australia, England, Holland-Belgium, Japan, Qatar, Russia, South Korea, Spain-Portugal and the USA.
