Extra tickets made available for London 2012
 23/03/2010

London 2012 organisers have made 300,000 extra tickets available for the Olympic Games.

A total of eight million tickets will go on sale from next year, with prices to be announced this autumn.

An additional 500,000 tickets to Paralympic events have also been made available, bringing that total to two million – meaning 10 million tickets in all will go on sale.

"It's critical as many tickets as possible end up with the public," said Olympics minister Tessa Jowell.

"Watching an Olympic event in your home country is a once in a lifetime experience.

"That's why it's critical that as many tickets as possible end up in the hands of the general public.

"With 10 million tickets going on sale next year, people will have even more of a chance to get the ticket that makes their dream come true."

London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (Locog) chief executive Paul Deighton added that only 1 per cent of tickets would go to "prestige hospitality", although a further 3 per cent will go to less expensive hospitality and travel packages. Some 8 per cent will go to sponsors and broadcasters, and 13 per cent to the ‘Olympic Family’.

Deighton told BBC Radio 5 live: "We are very conscious of making sure tickets are affordable.

"We will announce the prices in autumn this year and we will stick to our commitment to make them affordable and available."
