Brazil’s largest telecommunications company Oi has signed up as the first local sponsor of the 2014 World Cup.
Oi’s agreement with Fifa starts next year and runs until 2014, when the World Cup will take place in Brazil.
Thierry Weil, director of Fifa’s marketing division, said: "Efficient and reliable communications are a vital and integral part of everything we do in the modern world, and to approach a Fifa World Cup without the help and expertise of a major telecommunications provider would be unthinkable.
"Already Brazil’s largest telecommunications company, Oi has a rapidly expanding reputation throughout Latin America and represents a perfect fit within the portfolio of Fifa’s World Cup sponsors.”
