Tiger Woods has once again been accused of stealing a sponsor’s thunder over the timing of his first television interviews since his self-imposed exile from golf.
The interviews were aired on Sunday night, just as Jim Furyk was winning the Transitions Championship – his first official victory on the PGA Tour for three years.
David Cole, the managing director of Transitions, said: “We are a little bit disappointed that they chose to air that story at the conclusion of a very exciting tournament. We invest a lot of money in the Transitions Championship as a title sponsor.”
Woods was also criticised for deciding to make his first public statement since the scandal over his private life during February’s World Match Play, sponsored by Accenture – which had just ended its endorsement deal with Woods.
