Tiger Woods’s return to golf at next month’s Masters could increase television viewing figures by 16 per cent, it has been claimed.
The world No 1’s comeback will be a boost for the sport, according to 45 per cent of those who took part in the Seton Hall Sports Poll, while 9 per cent said it will have a negative effect.
However, only 11 per cent of women said they would root for Woods, compared with 18 per cent of men.
Director of the poll Rick Gentile said: “Women are not as embracing about his return or about his winning, which is not surprising, given the nature of his scandal.”
Woods took a self-imposed break from the game in December after allegations emerged about his private life. He has since admitted marital infidelity.
