Hiroshima mayor Tadatoshi Akiba wants the city council to rethink its decision to scrap plans to bid for the 2020 Olympic Games.
The council threw out the city government’s draft budget for the bid last week, but Akiba plans to convene an extraordinary assembly session this week to overturn the vote.
He said: "I intend to thoroughly explain [the plan] and ask the assembly to reconsider the decision.”
He had earlier stated: "I would like to quickly thrash out a solution and realise the dream.
"Many people have advocated the significance of hosting the Olympics in Hiroshima, and it's our responsibility to work toward realising the plan.”
In January, a plan to co-host the 2020 Games with Nagasaki was abandoned.
