Uefa president Michel Platini has warned 2012 European Championships co-host Ukraine that it will be stripped of the right to stage the tournament if it fails to get Kiev’s Olympic Stadium redeveloped in time.
Work on the Olympic Stadium is more than five months behind schedule and Ukrainian sports minister Ravil Safiullin said recently that the state of the country's Euro 2012 preparations was “depressing”.
The Associated Press quoted Platini as saying: "If there is no Kiev, then no Ukraine.”
Speculation has been mounting that Uefa could turn to Germany to co-host the tournament with Poland if Ukraine is not ready, but Platini claimed “there is no Plan B”.
He added: "I think Kiev will be all right in the end."
However, he did admit that he was worried about plans for the 30,000-capacity stadium in Lviv, saying there had been “no progress whatsoever".
