Tiger Woods says he wants to prove to sponsors that he can once again be a “worthy investment”.
The world number one makes his return to competitive golf at the Masters this week following a self-imposed five-month break after admitting being unfaithful to his wife.
The scandal led to several brands – including Accenture, AT&T; and Gatorade – ending lucrative endorsement deals with Woods.
At his first proper press conference since the story broke, he said: “Do I understand why they dropped me? Of course. I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my life and I totally understand why they would do that.
“Hopefully I can prove to the other companies going forward that I’m a worthy investment and that I can help their company grow and represent them well.
“I felt like I was representing companies well in the past but I wasn’t doing it in the right way because of what I was engaged in.”
