NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has set a revenue target of $25bn by 2027.
To achieve his aim, the league would need to add an average of almost $1bn in new revenue every year until then.
Street and Smith’s Sports Business Journal reports that Goodell presented the figure to owners at their annual league meeting in Orlando in late March.
“It has happened in a lot of well-run businesses,” New York Jets owner Woody Johnson said of the kind of revenue growth suggested by Goodell.
“If we expend our capital, expand our stadiums, keep renovating and keep all of our capital equipment up to the highest standards, invest in technology, [invest] in the business, it could be done – or more.”
Dallas Cowboys chief operating officer Stephen Jones added: “It is certainly an aggressive number but it is one we would like to get to.”
