Fifa has said it has no problem with Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) holding the exclusive Korean rights to this summer’s World Cup in South Africa.
Korea’s other major television and radio networks Korea Broadcasting System and Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation are unhappy SBS has been handed the exclusive rights to the tournament.
But Fifa’s director of television Nicholas Ericson said: “I support SBS's sole rights and I believe it will carry out the job excellently.
“As the event is only two months away and all the plans including the reservations for the press centre are finished, a joint broadcast is not realistic.”
SBS is thought to have paid £65m for the World Cup rights – four times more than it paid for the Vancouver Winter Olympics.
But asked about the high cost to broadcast the event, Ericson added: “I cannot make the terms and conditions of the contract public, but I think Fifa made a contract with a lower price than it should have been.”
