Former England rugby international Phil Greening has been appointed development manager for the new National Sevens Series.
Greening will become the ‘face’ of the series, which takes place in June and July with tournaments nationwide.
Tim Lacey, chief executive of the event’s promoter Ultimate Rugby Sevens, said: “Phil Greening’s experience and success, both as a former captain and coach of the England Sevens team and also at the very highest level of the 15s game, makes him a very valuable addition to the National Sevens Series management team.
“We simply could not ask for a better endorsement of the inaugural series than his involvement in its overall development.”
Greening added: “I am very excited to have been asked to join the management team and hope that my experience will add value to the development of the game in the UK and to the experience of the fans. I think Sevens deserves the kind of passion and vision that Ultimate Rugby Sevens is bringing to its development.”
Greening will work alongside National Sevens Series operations director Tom Burwell and the wider Ultimate Rugby Sevens team to develop the inaugural series.
