Sports information company STATS has signed a deal to become Uefa’s official motion tracking data partner for the Champions League.
STATS has been working with Deltatre, Uefa’s strategic partner for the provision of information technology services, during this year’s competition.
Its SportVU technology has collected real-time motion and positioning data for the ball and participants (players and referee) for every game of this season’s Champions League. The information is used to enhance Uefa’s broadcasts.
David Taylor, chief executive of Uefa Events, said: “Player tracking is a great tool that has proven to be very popular since its introduction at Euro 2008.
“Uefa is convinced that its partnership with STATS will prove highly efficient and will allow fans and media alike to continue to access exciting Uefa Champions League match statistics in real time.”
