The Football Association’s head of football integrity David Lampitt is leaving to take over as chief executive of Portsmouth.
Lampitt replaces Peter Storrie, who stepped down on March 12. Portsmouth is currently in administration and has just been relegated from the Premier League, but reached the FA Cup Final over the weekend.
Lampitt will join the South Coast club once his period of notice has been agreed with the FA.
FA chairman Lord Triesman said: "David Lampitt has been with the FA for six years and has made an outstanding contribution to our regulatory obligations.
"It is a great tribute to him that one of our oldest and most famous clubs should look to his expertise and personal character to bring it through a time of great difficulty. Portsmouth's fans should take comfort in a wise long-sighted appointment, and I wish David every success."
Alex Horne, acting chief executive of the FA, added: "We would like to wish David the very best in his new career, and we value his contribution to the organisation.
"We will be sad to see him leave once arrangements have been finalised with Portsmouth."
