Australia World Cup bid chief executive Ben Buckley has admitted that the host stadiums are still to be finalised less than five weeks before the country is due to submit its bid dossier to Fifa.
Public disagreements with rival football codes, who fear their sports will be disrupted by the World Cup and have refused to allow their stadiums to be used, have threatened to derail the Australian bid.
But Buckley insists that progress is being made. “We're inches away - we're getting very close,” he said. “We've had a lot of very positive momentum in the last few weeks, assisted by the government taskforce.
"We've worked closely with the taskforce and the other codes to address some of the issues that we have had. But we're getting very close to having a fantastic document to put forward to Fifa."
