Fifa has pledged its support to new China Football Association boss Wei Di, who is attempting to clean up the country’s game after the recent match-fixing scandal.

Wei, whose predecessor Nan Yong is currently facing prosecution for his part in the saga that engulfed the Chinese game over the winter, has just met Sepp Blatter in Zurich and said that the Fifa president was confident that the country’s “glory days” would return soon.

Wei added: “His [Blatter’s] confidence in us has no doubt eased our initial worries. I have promised him that the CFA will do its best to ensure a clean image of Chinese football within a year and win back the trust of the fans.

“Fifa is also willing to work together with the CFA to improve China's football. Mr Blatter has promised me that he will visit China again within this year.”
