The Bundesliga creates more than 5bn Euros a year for the German economy, a new report from McKinsey has found.
The study, entitled ‘Wirtschaftsfaktor Bundesliga’ (Economic factor Bundesliga), also showed that the league employed 110,000 people as of the 2007/08 season, and paid 1.5bn Euros in net taxes and fees on its 5.1bn annual turnover.
McKinsey found that professional football accounts for 5 per cent of the gross domestic product in Germany.
The study was based on economic figures from the 2007/08 season, as well as about 100 interviews with representatives from the league, clubs and license holders.
