Tennis Australia has elected Steve Healy as its new president.
Healy, who has been president of Tennis New South Wales since 2007, narrowly beat former world number one doubles player Paul McNamee in a ballot.
Healy, who held an ATP singles and doubles ranking in 1984, has been named president elect until October when incumbent Geoff Pollard retires after more than two decades at the head of the organisation.
"Steve was a pretty good player," Pollard said. "He went on to become president of the Northern Suburbs Tennis Association and then president of Tennis NSW, and now will become President of TA, so he understands tennis from grassroots right through to the elite level."
McNamee added: "I congratulate Stephen Healy and am heartened to hear him say there's a role for the disaffected members of the tennis community.
"I intend to continue my involvement in the sport, particularly in the Hopman Cup, and in addition intend to take up an opportunity in the critical implementation of world-class clay courts in Australia
