The Scottish National Party wants £150m of lottery money given to the London Olympics to go to Glasgow’s 2014 Commonwealth Games instead.
First minister Alex Salmond and deputy Nicola Sturgeon outlined the plans in the party’s manifesto this week, alongside John Mason who won the Glasgow East by-election two years ago.
Mason said a block of SNP MPs will be able to put pressure on whoever forms a UK Govern¬ment to ensure a better deal for Scotland
The manifesto read: “The SNP will continue to lead cross-party calls for the return of £150m lottery funds diverted from Scotland to help fund the London 2012 Games.”
Mason added: “The SNP is committed to making that legacy the best it can possibly be and we can turn a good legacy from the 2014 Games into a great legacy.
“The SNP in Govern¬ment is meeting 80 per cent of the costs of the Commonwealth Games and Games construction, alongside infrastructure improvements, and new housing for athletes is providing much-needed employment in a recession.”
