The winner of the 2011Cricket World Cup will receive more than $4m in prize money after the International Cricket Council doubled the total prize pot to $10m.
The ICC board, which met in Dubai this week, agreed to the increase "in order to reflect the importance of the ICC's flagship competition”.
Australia was awarded $2.24m for winning the 2007 event, while runners-up Sri Lanka received $1m.
In 2003, the total prize money was the same, but the percentage handed to the top two teams was less. Australia collected $2m as champions, while the losing finalists, India, picked up $800,000.
