South Africa, New Zealand and Australia Rugby (SANZAR) has signed a $437m five-year deal for broadcasting rights to the Super rugby competition and Tri-Nations series.
The agreement, which runs from 2011 to 2015, represents a 35 per cent increase on the previous five-year deal signed with News Corp that expires this year.
"SANZAR has concluded agreements with Supersport (Africa), Fox Sports (Australia) and SKY Television (New Zealand), has reached a heads of agreements for the UK market and is awaiting finalisation for the British and Irish Lions tour rights in 2013," SANZAR said in a statement.
"Together these represent a significant jump in value on the existing arrangements."
The agreement could expand to include forthcoming broadcasting deals with France, North America and Asia, SANZAR added.
The deal comes ahead of Super rugby's expansion from a 14-side competition to 15 with the addition of new franchise the Melbourne Rebels in 2011. Meanwhile, Argentina is likely to join the Tri-Nations at some point during the new agreement.
"These are encouraging times for the game," Australian Rugby Union chief John O'Neill said.
"We came through a difficult financial period that affected sports and businesses across the globe and have subsequently emerged with a superior broadcast deal to the previous two in place from 1996 and 2006."
