The British Olympic Association (BOA) has appointed American public relations specialist Darryl Seibel as head of Olympic media and communications strategy.
Seibel was chief communications officer for the United States Olympic Committee for almost seven years until 2009 and was with the BOA at the Vancouver Winter Olympics in February.
He has been brought on board to help raise the profile of British athletes before the 2012 Games and said: “I am thrilled to have been given the chance to join the British Olympic Association at this exciting time.
“I was lucky enough to work with Team GB on a short-term basis at the Vancouver Games, and enjoyed the experience enormously, so I’m delighted to now extend that relationship.
“The 2012 Games represent a once-in-a-generation chance to transform Olympic sport across the country, and I’m determined to help the BOA to make the most of this unique opportunity.”
Seibel will join the BOA full time in May from 776 Original Marketing, a sports marketing and strategic communications company he helped found in 2009. It is expected he will return to the firm as managing partner following the London Olympics.
