More than a million people have registered an interest for tickets for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, it has been announced.
Online registration for eight million tickets opened in March. Tickets go on sale in spring 2011, although prices have yet to be revealed.
Organisers said 96 per cent of registrations came from UK residents – and that they were “thrilled” with the level of interest.
"What has been really interesting is that there has been significant interest across all Olympic and Paralympic sports," London 2012 chairman Lord Coe added.
"It should come as no surprise that the British public is so enthused by the prospect of world-class sport coming to these shores.
"I would urge people to continue to sign up and ensure they are in the front row for information between now and 2012."
The figures showed 32 per cent of UK residents' registrations came from the Greater London region, 27 per cent from the South East and 41 per cent from the rest of the country.
