ITV is hoping to boost its advertising revenue by at least £20m during the World Cup this summer.
ITV1's advertising income has already increased by 13-15 per cent in the first six months of the year, according to The Times.
ITV, which is sharing World Cup coverage with the BBC, is reportedly targeting a young, male audience with more car and beer adverts. Many of the car and beer companies are apparently defecting from Channel 4 and Five to ITV.
Analysts expect that a strong performance by the England team in the tournament may help the broadcaster's ad revenue rise by 25 per cent over last June.
