Brazil 2014 World Cup chairman Ricardo Teixeira has given the 12 host cities a month to make progress on plans to build or renovate stadia.
Earlier this week, Fifa secretary-general Jerome Valcke criticised the pace of preparations after a receiving a report from organisers.
Teixeira told Globoesporte that the cities "must demonstrate their financial ability to build stadiums". He admitted "the reality is that they are very late in the projects".
Teixeira said that cities which do not accelerate preparations will lose their host status and be replaced by others.
