Uefa president Michel Platini has revealed that Germany or Hungary could be asked to stage some European Championship games in 2012 if Ukraine is not ready in time.
The tournament is due to be co-hosted with Poland, but work on stadiums and infrastructure in Ukraine is way behind schedule.
Platini said Monday (May 10) on the German federation's website that Poland could potentially stage the event in six stadiums, with Uefa asking either Germany or Hungary to provide two venues.
Currently, Poland and Ukraine are scheduled to provide four stadiums each for the tournament.
Uefa is expected to decide by the end of June if games can take place in Ukraine. Platini gave the country a two-month deadline to make progress when he visited last month.
He insisted Uefa had no Plan B as "that would mean we don't trust Plan A”.
"But that doesn't mean we couldn't react," he added. "If logistical problems persist in Ukraine, then we will find another way. The executive committee will then meet and make a decision.
"An option could be to have six venues in Poland. Maybe Uefa could also ask Hungary or Germany if they could or would want to jump in with two stadiums.
“But I'd like to stress once again: at the moment we are not thinking about it. We believe Ukraine will complete all the necessary work on time and that the European Championship will take place as planned."
