Suspended Indian Premier League chairman Lalit Modi has requested more time to respond to a ‘show cause notice’ from the Board of Control for Cricket in India accusing him of a range of financial irregularities.
Modi was suspended after the final of the third edition of the IPL on April 25 and was asked to respond within 15 days to a five-point notice which accuses him of rigging bids, receiving kickbacks from television deals and of misconduct amounting to indiscipline.
Another show cause notice was later issued to Modi based on an e-mail received by the BCCI from England and Wales Cricket Board chairman Giles Clarke accusing him of indulging in activities which are "detrimental to Indian cricket, English cricket and world cricket at large".
Modi was scheduled to present his defence to the BCCI in Mumbai on May 10, but that meeting was cancelled.
"There is too much paperwork still to be done," Modi told Times Now.
"I received the documents on Friday [May 7] and the team feels [it is] better to be most thorough in our reply. [I have sought] just a few days more."
On May 8, Modi had told reporters he would present his case to the BCCI in person.
"I am going to reply personally because there is nothing to hide," he said. "I have not gone anywhere. I have only been suspended."
The BCCI is reported to have granted Modi until May 15 to reply to the notices.
