The National Basketball Association has opened its eighth store in China as it bids to build on the popularity of the sport in the country.
The store, which is in the Shanghai World Expo Performing Arts Centre, features an assortment of league merchandise, including jerseys, basketballs, footwear, memorabilia and souvenirs.
"We pride ourselves on being the most popular sport in China," NBA China chief operating officer Collins Qian said. “We see an increased popularity of our brand."
Reuters reports that the importance of overseas markets to the NBA is growing due to the weak US economy. NBA commissioner David Stern said in February the US economy and a crippling labour agreement with players would result in the league losing about $400m this year.
China is the largest NBA merchandise market outside the United States with revenue doubling so far this season.
