Kenya has revealed it will not bid for the 2020 Olympic Games despite International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge saying last week that he hopes an African country will bid for the event in the near future.
Kenya sports minister Helen Sambili said the country has bigger challenges it must overcome first before it could justify spending billions of shillings on the world’s biggest sporting event.
“Our main focus is first to put in the structures and facilities that can help our youth to develop,” she added. “We need to build a new stadium and make the facilities available before thinking of such a big task.”
