The South Korean government has reiterated its support for PyeongChang's bid for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games by promising to speed up work on the region’s infrastructure.
Donga.com reports that the measures, which include construction of railways and repairs to roads, were presented at a meeting of a government support committee for PyeongChang 2018 chaired by Prime Minister Chung Un-chan at the end of last week.
An 11.3km double railway track running between Wonju and Gangneung slated for completion in 2020 will now be finished in 2018. Gangneung will be the venue for the skating competition if PyeongChang hosts the 2018 Games.
Meanwhile, a curved section of a 28.5km road between Jinbu and Najeon is scheduled to be straightened. The road will serve as the main entrance to a downhill race facility in Jungbong, Gangwon Province.
