Spain will have the most valuable team at this year’s World Cup, followed by Argentina and England, new research has claimed.
Frontier (Europe) has carried out an analysis of the economic value of the players of the 10 national football teams most likely to win the tournament in South Africa according to betting odds.
The estimated value of the Spanish starting line up is £258m, followed by Argentina (£249m), England (£226m), Brazil (£190m), Portugal (£171m), France (£153m), Germany (£133m), Netherlands (£132m), Ivory Coast (£111m) and Italy (£108m).
The study ranks Argentina’s Lionel Messi as the most valuable player in the world at £119m, with Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo second at £81m.
