Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi’s company has denied reports it is planning to sell a stake in AC Milan to Russian gas giant Gazprom.
La Gazzetta dello Sport claimed Berlusconi, whose company Fininvest owns Milan, had discussed the sale of a 25-30 per cent stake in the club with Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin during his visit to Italy last month.
The minority stake in Milan would be valued at 150m to 180m Euros, the newspaper said.
At the end of last week, Italian daily Libero reported that Gazprom was considering taking a 30 per cent stake in Fininvest.
A Fininvest spokesman called the report "totally groundless” and when asked about the Gazzetta story on Gazprom being interested in Milan, added: "We strongly denied a report on Friday. There is nothing to add.”
Gazprom also denied the report.
