South African businessman Johann Rupert has been made an honorary life vice-president of the European Tour.
Rupert’s company sponsors the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek in South Africa and the Alfred Dunhill Links championship in Scotland.
European Tour chief executive George O'Grady said: "The European Tour is very fortunate that when we go around the world, we find partners who are strong, powerful people who are extremely passionate about golf. In Johann Rupert, we have a partner who embodies all of those traits.
"The European Tour is delighted that Johann has accepted the award to become an honorary life vice-president of our Tour. It is a fitting award for a man whose contribution to golf is colossal."
