McDonald’s has extended its long-term sponsorship deal with Uefa to cover the next two European Championships.
The fast food chain, which has been a Uefa sponsor since 1992, has renewed its status as the official restaurant and a EUROTOP partner covering all competitions within the programme until 2017.
The deal makes it the sixth global partner to sign up for Euro 2012 following agreements with Adidas, Castrol, Coca-Cola, Hyundai-Kia and Carlsberg.
As part of its sponsorship deal, which includes integrated broadcast sponsorship rights in Europe, McDonald’s will continue to provide children with the opportunity to participate in all national team competitions through the sole and exclusive ‘McDonald’s Player Escort Programme’.
“We have been supporting football, from grassroots level to the international tournaments, for more than 25 years,” said Denis Hennequin, president of McDonald’s Europe.
“Our Player Escort Programme is a great way of inspiring more young people to participate in the game.”
David Taylor, chief executive of Uefa Events, added: "The commitment of McDonald’s to sponsor Euro 2012 and all our EUROTOP competitions is a further vote of confidence in the tournaments we organise and we are delighted to continue our long-standing relationship with McDonald’s.”
Euro 2012 will be co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine, while a decision on the 2016 host is set to be made on Friday (May 28) when UEFA chooses between France, Italy and Turkey.
