France has been chosen to stage the European Championships in 2016.
The decision was announced by Uefa president Michel Platini at the Espace Hippomène in Geneva, Switzerland.
France beat Italy and Turkey to win the right to host the tournament, which will feature 24 teams for the first time.
The French Football Federation bid included 12 stadiums in 11 cities: Bordeaux, Lens, Lille, Lyon, Nancy, Nice, Marseille, Paris (Stade de France and Parc des Princes), Saint-Etienne, Strasbourg and Toulouse.
France has previously hosted the World Cup in 1938 and 1998, and the European Championships in 1960 and 1984.
