Preston North End has confirmed it is holding discussions with Deepdale PNE Holdings Limited over a possible takeover.
The talks follow Preston North End plc being served with a winding-up petition by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs on May 14, with shares in the company suspended.
A stock exchange statement said: "There can be no certainty that an offer will be made or as to the terms on which any offer would be made.
"A further announcement will be made in due course, if and when appropriate."
DPNE, a newly formed company controlled by Lancashire businessman Trevor Hemmings, is associated with Guild Ventures Limited, the largest shareholder in Preston North End plc, holding 28.02 per cent of the ordinary shares in the company.
