Ukraine has been given a huge vote of confidence by UEFA after proving its capability to co-host the 2012 European Championship with Poland.
UEFA officials had their fears allayed by a number of Ukraine’s political and sporting advisers, despite worries over delayed stadium and airport upgrades.
However, the European football governing body believes the country has a “strong agenda” and is confident that Kiev will be ready to host the final.
Boris Kolesnykov, Ukraine’s deputy prime minister, is now expecting a further inspection by UEFA officials in September.
“Everything is in the hands of Poland and Ukraine, and we should work, work and work,” Kolesnykov told The Associated Press through a translator.
“I will be happy when the final match is played in Kiev and even happier when all our citizens in the four cities will be seeing the matches.”
Both Germany and Hungary had been put on alert by UEFA president Michel Platini after the Frenchman revealed his reservations with Ukraine’s lack of progress.
Ukraine will provide four host cities for the tournament although Kiev, Donetsk, Kharkiv and Lviv all face a race against time to be ready.
“There is no reason for UEFA to look into alternatives—so-called ‘Plan B’ — if this plan is respected and delivered,” UEFA said in a statement.
“There are, however, no signs at all today that Kiev will not be in a position to host Euro 2012,” UEFA said.
