TalkSport has pulled off a major coup by claiming the exclusive commentary rights to the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
The BBC had held the rights since the inception of the tournament in 1987 but will no longer enjoy the monopoly.
The national talk radio station will provide live commentary on all 48 matches from New Zealand after striking a deal with IMG, the sports marketing group which organises the competition.
"This is a premier world event when it comes to sport, it is hugely prestigious," said TalkSport programme director Moz Dee.
"This deal builds on TalkSport's commitment to quality content and we are delighted to be the only radio station where fans can hear live commentary."
"Our aim, as exclusive radio broadcasters for Rugby World Cup 2011, is simple," added Scott Taunton, chief executive of TalkSport.
"To bring the same distinctive, passionate and energetic approach that we deliver week in and week out in our Premier League commentaries to the Rugby World Cup 2011."
