WSG clinches Australia Open deal
 07/06/2010

World Sport Group (WSG) has agreed a six-year deal with Golf Australia to become the promoter of the Australia Open.

WSG, the leading sports marketing, media and event management group in Asia, has built up a relationship with the Australia Open over the past 12 months and has contracted TRP Sports as the tournament organiser for the second year in succession.

Chris Jordan, senior vice president of golf at World Sport Group, said: "It is an exciting development for World Sport Group to be able to enjoy a long term commitment with the Australian Open - an event steeped in history boasting so many famous winners.

“Our agreement with Golf Australia takes us up to the 2014 Australian Open and during this time frame we will try to ensure the tournament enjoys one of the most successful periods in its history."

Golf Australia chief executive Stephen Pitt added: "We believe the Australian Open is entering an exciting new era that will help it attract more of the world's best players and allow it to be seen by a greater number of golf fans across the world on television.

“We saw this start to happen last year with World Sport Group's efforts and much greater things are expected in the forthcoming seasons."

This year’s tournament will boast prize money of $1.3 million and will take place at The Lakes in Sydney from December 2-5.

Tony Roosenburg, managing director of TRP Sport, revealed his delight wit the deal.

"Preparations for this year's event at the Lakes Golf Club in Sydney are well advanced and we are excited about the player announcements made,” he said.

“There still remains a unique naming rights sponsorship opportunity for our national Open."
