KantarSport has revealed Spanish and Italian supporters lead the way in their enthusiasm for the World Cup.
The survey by the research company concluded that 89% of adults in Spain said they had followed the qualifying campaign in comparison to 77% in the UK and 69% in France.
In the category of how many people would follow their side’s fortunes in South Africa, Italy came top with 83%, while the UK recorded 68% and France 62%.
According to KantarSport, the low levels of interest in the UK and France are correlated with the low level of confidence in the team’s chances of success.
Just two out of every 10 French supporters backed their country to lift the trophy, while seven out of 10 Spaniards backed Vicente Del Bosque’s side to win the tournament.
Meanwhile, KantarSport also revealed that Coca-Cola were the sponsor most people were aware of going into this summer’s competition.
