Sport England will invest £93,000 in its Volunteer campaign ahead of the London 2012 Olympics.
The programme, ‘Volunteering England’ hopes to promote sports volunteering and create opportunities ahead of the Games.
According to Sport England’s Active People Survey, an estimated two million adults give at least an hour of their time to a sports voluntary role.
Justin Davis Smith, Volunteering England Chief Executive, said: "Mostly people get to volunteer through their friendships and networks where they live.
"Volunteer Centres are really important in creating the conditions locally which will help sports clubs involve more volunteers."
Hugh Robertson, Minister for Sport and the Olympics, added that volunteers are "the lifeblood of grassroots sport".
