Luca Montezemolo, the man who brought the World Cup to Italy in 1990, has given his backing to England in their quest to host the 2018 tournament.
Montezmolo, now the president of Ferrari, believes England should be given the opportunity to host football’s greatest show for the first time since 1966.
He told the BBC: "England has all the ingredients to organise a successful World Cup.
"England has a huge tradition in soccer. They have good stadiums, good teams. They have one of the best national teams with a very good national trainer.
And when questioned whether England should host the 2018 tournament, he replied: "Yes. Yes."
England face a challenge from Russia, the USA and Australia as well as joint bids from Spain and Portugal and Holland and Belgium.
Montezemolo, one of Italy’s most respected businessmen, also offered his advice to England’s 2018 committee following his experiences in 1990.
"Have clear goals, establish the best team of people and have the best national companies to work with and have as partners in the organisation. Telecommunications companies, logistic companies, television companies."
The winning bids for 2018 and 2022 will be announced on 2 December.
