GBI Racing has reported that last Saturday’s Investec Derby meeting at Epsom produced a turnover of £4.5m (HK$50,833, 905) in Hong Kong.
It was the first time the Derby had been shown live in Hong Kong for nine years through the GBI Racing Service and produced £1.18m (HK$13,271, 150) in turnover.
Richard Brooke, Chairman of GBI Racing, commented: “The turnover of over HK$50m is most encouraging, particularly since this is the first time the Investec Derby meeting has been shown in Hong Kong since 2001.
“We are pleased that the broadcast was so well received in Hong Kong and again this shows the benefit of 48-hour declarations. There is clearly great potential to grow the relationship between Hong Kong race fans and British racing.”
William A Nader, Executive Director, Racing, of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, said: “With this simulcast arrangement, Hong Kong horse racing fans were provided the opportunity to watch and wager on the Investec Derby meeting from the United Kingdom for the first time in nine years.
"We had the great pleasure to see a remarkable performance by the Derby winner, Workforce, and to participate in a major event on the international racing calendar."
