Sport in the UK will receive a £50m boost by 2012 from the National Lottery with the new government keen to secure a legacy following the 2012 London Olympics.
Olympics Minister, Hugh Robertson, wants to “deliver a mass participation sports legacy from London 2012” and has increases sport’s share of lottery money from 16% to 20%.
"Sport will receive 20% of the shares of the National Lottery,” said Robertson.
“What I do not know is how many commitments are set in the pipeline - but that money will be used to drive community sports legacy.
"These changes will boost school and community sport, increase the flow of lottery money and further improve the way our key sports bodies work together.
“They will also help put the UK at the top of the world league when it comes to hosting major sports events, which is critical at a time when we are bidding to win the 2018 World Cup."
