American sports network, ESPN, has revealed that Saturday’s 1-1 draw between the USA and England was the most watched football game in the country since 1994.
The Group C opener averaged 13 million viewers on ABC, more than the total of people who tuned in for the USA v Brazil last-16 clash in 1994.
ESPN and ABC has so far averaged 4.94 million viewers in this tournament, meaning their total figures have doubled since the 2006 tournament.
The combination of Spanish and English language broadcasts saw viewing figures rise to 8.1 million from 4.5 million four years ago.
