The German Bundesliga still holds the world’s highest attendance record despite suffering a small decrease over the past year.
The figures, which have been published by the German Football League (DFL), show that overall attendances for the first and second division fell by 0.34% on 2008-09.
This means that 17.43 million people attended the 612 games last season.
The top flight recorded an average attendance of 41.802, down from 41,904 from the previous year.
The average attendance for the second-tier Bundesliga 2 was also down – falling from 15,550 in 2008-09 to 15,000 last term.
The league claims that extenuating circumstances such as building work at Stuttgart and Bremen may have played a role in the decrease as well as the global economic downturn.
