South African government agencies have been accused of spending $1.5 million in public funds for World Cup tickets, despite warnings on wasteful expenditure.
The Democratic Alliance, which provides the opposition in the South African parliament, has presented documents to support its latest claims.
"The purchase of World Cup tickets by government departments ... is not an acceptable way for government departments to be spending their budgets," Tim Harris, a DA member of parliament said in a statement.
Finance Minister, Pravin Gordhan, warned just last month that such spending would be viewed as "irregular ... and fruitless and wasteful expenditure".
