J Sainsbury Plc have revealed they are expecting to sell out of vuvuzela horns within the next 24 hours.
Sainsbury bought 70,000 of the long plastic horns with 50,000 of those having been sold following a surge of World Cup fever in the UK.
“When we bought them, we thought 70,000 was a huge number, our buyer thought he was being quite bold,” Chief Executive Officer Justin King said.
“I suspect people will be scrabbling away to find stock. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is stuff coming around from South Africa as we speak.”
The vuvuzela, which can reach 127 decibels, makes them louder than a chainsaw or lawnmower.
Sainsbury are selling the horns for £2 and are the only supermarket to sell the plastic instrument.
